Chipping Norton, the Gateway to the Cotswolds, is not just a wonderful place to live and work. Only 20 miles from Oxford, Chipping Norton is centrally situated with good road and rail links to many major cities. This central location means WORD-right is ideally placed to work with companies all over the UK.

WORD-right has a very ‘green’ company ethos. In both our business and personal lives, we try to reduce, recycle and re-use. To this end, we use the electronic transfer of documents, and recycled materials as far as possible.

Joy McCarthy     Dip CW (Inst. CW)

Joy McCarthy is a member of the Institute of Copywriting and holds a Diploma in Copywriting. She is a Tutor with the Institute and regularly works with around 30 trainee writers. Joy also holds a Diploma in Distance Tutoring.

As a qualified marketing professional, Joy has nearly 20 years experience in copywriting. She brings a strong marketing mind-set to WORD-right’s skill base.

Born in Kintore, Aberdeenshire (and a very patriotic Scot), Joy’s passion for words and writing started at an early age. The Scottish Educational system prided itself on teaching the highest standards of English, something which is reflected in all her work.

Joy’s career started in the Hotel and Catering Industry, where she qualified from craft through to management level. In the 1980s she owned and managed her own restaurant and outside catering company. With this background, it is not surprising Joy is a confirmed ‘foodie’ with a passion for home cooking, where her creative nature can be given free rein.

A career in marketing was a natural progression from the restaurant ownership. As any small business knows, marketing skills are essential to success. Joy went on to work extensively in the charity sector, and said, “Being able to write a good begging letter was a great asset.”

As well as having a creative nature, Joy has a great sense of humour. Unusual situations, in both her personal and business life, are likely to prompt frequent attacks of ‘Ode-mode’, some examples of which can be found on this website.

David McCarthy     Dip Mgmt (Open), Dip MS (IMS)

David has been 'writing for business' since starting his training in Management Services many moons ago. For the last ten years, in a variety of management roles and through his Open University MBA courses, David has been honing his writing skills, and demonstrating his ability to write effectively for the widest range of audiences. Unlike Joy, writing was not a particular forte of David's while at school - he was a late developer!

With David's background in Information Technology, and with experience in the finance, banking and insurance industries, David is WORD-right's technical writer. He also fixes WORD-right's computers when they are playing up!

David has a thirst for knowledge and always seeks to develop his business skills. He's also keen on creative writing, although he hasn't had anything published yet.

Imogen Dennis-Newton     Dip.CW (Inst.CW)

Imogen Dennis-Newton is a member of the Institute of Copywriting. She has a Diploma in Copywriting, and a lifelong passion for English and the written word. A skilled wordsmith, Imogen is dedicated to transforming the mundane into the sensational.

Imogen has many year's experience in Marketing, Sales, Account Management, and Business Development. She understands the importance of getting your message across to the people who count.

Thanks to her background, Imogen is particularly skilled at writing dynamic, hard-hitting sales and marketing literature. She's also a self-confessed 'grammar queen' and revels in writing technical documents, compelling newsletters, and creative web copy for a multitude of industries.

Born in Brighton, East Sussex, Imogen is a Southerner at heart. However, having swapped the Sussex shingle for the North Wales Hills, she takes great inspiration from her rural idyll.

Nikki Cooke

Nikki Cooke's writing journey began when she was a child living in Coventry. She wrote poetry about the world around her, including her first published piece, 'Snow' at the grand old age of 8! Nikki embarked on writing her autobiography, which has yet to be published, during her teenage years, and continued her passion for the English language by studying literature to degree level.

Having been a successful English teacher for 15 years, Nikki decided to follow her dream of becoming a professional writer when she moved to Chipping Norton. She has now had several articles and case studies published, as well as gaining experience in writing powerful marketing copy for the B2B market. Nikki also specialises in writing book reviews, one of which is a poetry anthology. She is currently studying for her Diploma with the Institute of Copywriting.

WORD-right’s ‘About Us’ section would not be complete without giving a mention to the company’s security consultant, Meg! Not only does she perform her duties enthusiastically, alerting everyone to potential security breaches, such as postmen and other delivery services, she also provides a warm welcome to visiting clients.
